About This Workshop

This course is designed to get you as involved as possible - this includes identifying, picking and tasting a range of wild species that will be found on the day. There will also be samples of wild food and drink for everyone to get stuck into and a pre-made wild snack!

The focus with all of our workshops is on the 4 'F's of Foraging: Fungi, Fruit, Flowers and Foliage. We aim for an array of these elements on every session we run (weather and season permitting!)

Event sold out or can't make this date? Head to www.foragebox.co.uk/workshops to browse all available sessions.

Great way to spend a morning

Joanne Ashworth

Wanted to try foraging for a while. Booked this as a birthday gift then wondered what on earth we'd find in winter! No need to worry, there was a great variety of plants to try, supported by interesting information and anecdotes. Jim had prepared other foraged food to accompany what we found on the day and we ended with a tasty snack cooked in the woods. It's great that this company has events in different locations as we will definitely do another.

Looking forward to booking again!

Jen

An enjoyable and interesting day spent foraging with Emily in Sittingbourne and a fab group today. Emily was lovely, very knowledgeable about the medicinal and culinary uses and the folk law was also fascinating. I'm looking forward to trying new recipes and skills for future forages. Thank you Emily. Hoping to join a summer forage with you too.

Sarah

Lovely few hours spent with Emily at Borden, she was a great instructor and very knowledgeable of the medicinal uses of the plants we found. I liked the folklore stories of the plants too as well as making a wild oxymel.

★★★★★

Excellent.

Evan James

Joel was a fantastic guide, really enjoyed the walk despite the weather, and really nice to have a small group with lots of discussion. Would definitely recommend and go again myself

★★★★★

An excellent rewarding experience

Sam H

Joel Y is extremely knowledgeable and personable, imparting a lot of information entertainingly in a short space of time. There was no question he didn't have the answer for and I definitely feel more confident about my identification skills now. The foraged ingredient snacks at the end were very tasty, with gluten free and vegan catered for beautifully, and very much appreciated. And the hot chai was also very welcome on a cold day. He showed us that even winter months are very productive times to forage too.

Alex was a fantastic guide on our foraging trip near Ledbury! Really enthusiastic and could answer any questions we had, the food he prepared at the end was also delicious and so well thought out. Will definitely be doing more courses with forage box.

Samuel Pringle

Had a really good time on the foraging course. Pete was an excellent host, really knowledgable and approachable. I enjoyed talking with him. His cake was excellent too! All round it was a great day, my only critique would be to encourage people to apply the knowledge as youre learning a little. There is a lot to take in so for me it would be a good way to test the knowledge and learn more deeply. I appreciate this might be more personal to my learning style, so more of a comment than anything else. Would reccomend

Foraging with Richard at Gayton…

Maryanne Mcginn

Richard our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he cautioned us about the important safety issues when foraging and made the experience thoroughly enjoyable

★★★★★

Richard was absolutely wonderful

Tenini

Richard was absolutely wonderful. We had the best time foraging and haven't stopped talking about it and recommending the experience to everyone. The course was perfectly pitched, beginner friendly, yet we've come away having learnt so much and been really excited to put these skills into practice. Richard's enthusiasm for foraging was infectious! Thanks again for the time you took to answer all our questions. Can't wait to come back in a different season and learn more.

Richard was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic to share his experience and understanding. He was also not afraid to say what he didn’t know and to urge caution. We were given an excellent base from which to learn more. I highly enjoyable afternoon

keith marsh

We were lucky to have a dry sunny day in March and to have Jim as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and entertaining with stories and anecdotes about all the specimens we could and should not eat. We learned how to collect safely and sustainably and how to cook and preserve certain items. It was incredible many delicious leaves, shoots, plants and buds we found in such a small stretch of the Lancaster canal.

★★★★★

Brilliant event for novice or more experienced foragers

Cathy Long

We had a wonderful few hours with Emily, she was very knowledgeable, patient & caring. I'm looking forward to trying the Oxymel that I made, & am already thinking that I might want to go on another Forage & Nibble event, at a different time of year, to be able to identify / taste other medicinal plants.

We had a lovely time in Borough Green (Kent) with Emily. She is super knowledgeable and was very helpful. It was a lovely experience, I would highly recommend.

Most excellent and lots learned

Graham & Cathy

We were relatively experienced foragers but had no idea regarding the medicinal properties of such common and readily available plants. Emily was not only extremely knowledgeable but had a friendly and approachable presenting style. Would definitely book her again. Good value also I thought. Will do again.

Canalside Forage

David W

Booked a 3 hour forage along the Lancaster Canal on Sunday 22 March 2026. What a fabulous and enlightening experience it was. I had no idea there was so much edible (and poisonous) vegetation along such a short stretch of the canal. Jim was such an interesting and knowledgeable guide. The small pasta pot meal cooked at the end was excellent too. Cannot recommend this highly enough.

★★★★★

What a great experience

Mr Sam Rees

What a great experience. We had been meaning to do a foraging course for a while and this has really opened up a can of worms. We plan to go out again as soon as we can and try and learn more. Cannot recommend Gavin enough, his knowledge and experience was first class. We will seriously be considering a follow up course with Gavin again if he is in the area.

★★★★★

Fun, friendly and informative

Fynn

Really enjoyable! Before doing this experience I had done some foraging by learning from books but doing the experience massively improved the amount of food I can find while I’m out and about. The tutor, Jim, was knowledgeable and friendly, and I will be looking to go to one of these events again! Also the food provided at the end of the session tasted amazing.

Debbie

First time foraging experience in the Trough of Bowland. Bought by my husband as a birthday gift. It was a small group so it was easy to listen, learn and interact with our guide and each other. Gavin, our guide had such passion for the topic. He was very knowledgeable and identified many edible and inedible species of plant and their habitat. Lots of opportunity to get hands on and the foraged cook up at the end was lovely...we also each got a free gift of a calendar at the end. Thank you so much for such a unique, interesting experience. Happy to recommend 👌

Pete brought the subject alive

Mrs Anna Kovaleva

Went on the Chorlton Water Park foraging walk with my teenage daughter and a friend. Pete was brilliant, deeply knowledgeable about plants and fungi, generous with his stories, and open in a way that made it easy for all of us to engage. The Japanese knotweed segment was something we were both still talking about on the way home, which says everything. A genuinely good afternoon. Would recommend without hesitation, and already thinking about what else we might book.

We had an incredible guide

David

We had an incredible guide, Joel whist we went foraging on 25th April 2026 in Lincoln. Full of knowledge, polite throughout and entertaining. We learnt so much and did not appreciate what is available to us. Joel`s nettle cake was delicious as were the syrups. All for a very reasonable fee.

★★★★★

What a great experience

Rebecca Kirton

What a great experience! Our guide, Joel, just knew his stuff! And knew how to pass his knowledge on in an exciting and memorable way. It was good fun, easy going and an absolute pleasure to attend. 100% recommended to anyone who may be a little bit daunted by where to start. A lovely location too. Our first visit and will definitely go again. Top mark's all round

★★★★★

What an interesting workshop!

Isabelle

What an interesting workshop! I came with a little experience and knowledge of foraging, but this was a good experience to reaffirm some of it. Examples of where you'd use the plants as ingredients and their health benefits were given, helpful to see how you'd integrate them into your life. Joel, the tutor, was really informative and presented his expertise with quip humour, accommodating to all ages and skill levels. I'd definitely recommend going for one of these sessions to learn about the plants in your local area or wider region.

★★★★★

Interesting and informative

Kevin O'Driscoll

Emily was really knowledgeable and made the entire experience most entertaining and informative. Really interesting way to spend time in the countryside and I came way with a greater understanding of the culinary and medicinal uses of woodland trees, plants and flowers.

Great foraging experience

Ruth Dawson

Our foraging expert, Joel, was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all things plant! It was impossible not to enjoy learning about the plants we found and tasted. It's really opened my eyes to what is available under our feet and above our heads in the trees. Highly recommend the workshops.

★★★★★

Joel is excellent!

N.R.

Joel was an excellent guide. He was so knowledgeable on not only the plants that were edible to forage but also the history associated with eating wild foraged foods. I suffer severely with hayfever and will be looking into natural remedies for that and colds and anything else! I would definitely recommend the forage & nibble.

★★★★★

Confidence builder

Noela Dowling

Our lead, Joel, was passionate, enthusiastic and full of knowledge. The session gave me so much confidence to add wild food to my cooking and a thirst to know more. A great way to connect back to the land and our environment.

Marion Kemp

Did a ‘forage & nibble’ workshop near Sheffield and loved it. Our guide Joel was super knowledgeable and friendly, the workshop was relaxed and he adapted to the needs of the group and able to answer questions and give recipe ideas. I wasn’t totally new to foraging but have learnt so much more and it’s a great way to connect with nature. Would definitely recommend it.

The most amazing day

Gemma Elston

We’ve just had the most amazing experience today with Alex. From walking around trying each plant to Alex’s knowledge to the range of food offered and tried in the last hour. I cannot recommend this enough for anyone with any interest in the world around us. Amazing day - thank you so much!
