We are often guilty of giving the impression that all foraged food needs to be from great wildernesses, woodlands and wild places. In fact, a large majority of our products are found not that far from Forage Box HQ and some even closer to home than you think. A quick wander through suburbia in spring, maybe peering over the odd fence, will present plenty of wild foods, including the very common Flowering Currant bush. Grown for its beautiful pink floral display rather than its fruit, this is a mainstay of front gardens and parks alike, but can be found on scrubbier patches of land where seeds spread by birds have germinated and been left to their own wonderful devices.
This delicious infused vodka has been made much in the same way your typical sloe gin would be - infusing the beautiful pink flowers in the spirit imparts the fruity, floral flavours into the alcohol and the result is superb. We've even aged it a while to allow the flavours to mellow. Enjoy the result neat, with a dash of soda or as part of a fruity cocktail where vodka would do most of the heavy lifting. It will hopefully make you look at the plants in your garden a little differently when the penny drops about how edible some of them may just be.
